the world of Arcangeli
Reviving the past
Thanks to the expertise of Alberto Arcangeli and his team, the shipyard specializes in the
maintenance and restoration of wooden boats such as the iconic Riva, which—renowned for
their elegance and refinement—remain coveted by enthusiasts worldwide.
Our philosophy is centered on a conservative, authentic approach: a method that enhances each vessel while remaining true to its original character and respectful of the rich history embedded in every Riva boat.
This delicate work is carried out by highly skilled personnel specialized in woodwork, fiberglass, and mechanical components. The wooden boat restoration process includes several phases, each requiring specific know-how:
Woodwork restoration
In restoring wooden boats—especially historic Riva boats made of mahogany— the preparation of the hull is essential. Every surface must be treated with utmost care using appropriate tools and materials.
The first step in Arcangeli’s process is assessing the condition of the wood to determine whether it is suitable for repainting.
If the condition is critical, our in-house carpentry department intervenes with structural repairs, reconstructing damaged planks or the hull’s outer layer.
This work is always done with respect for the boat’s original characteristics, ensuring structural integrity and maintaining the iconic Riva design through meticulous craftsmanship and the use of top-quality products.
Varnishing
Once the hull has been restored, the Arcangeli team begins the varnishing phase, which includes several key operations.
First, the surface is prepared with light or heavy sanding, depending on the need. Then a mahogany paste is used to match the original color, followed by impregnation, applied by brush, roller, or spray.
To breathe new life into wooden boats, the process may also include color filling—a sequence of sanding and varnishing steps to achieve a full, glossy, and uniform surface.
The varnishing concludes with the application of two or three coats of transparent finish.
Reassembly
In the final stage, every component of the boat is reinstalled with precision.
Original elements are restored and repositioned, while any compromised parts are replaced with either genuine or faithfully reproduced components.
Every detail is crafted with care—from fittings and windshields to instruments and interior finishes.
Everything is handled with respect for riva’s timeless design and functionality, with the aim of returning each boat to its original splendor.
